Diigo – Social Bookmarking
by Nicolas Frichot
Diigo is a social bookmarking and research tool that enables users to save, annotate, and share web pages for collaborative online research and information organization.

Main features:
- Bookmarking websites for research;
- Highlighting and annotating online articles;
- Collaborative sharing of annotated resources.
Diigo really takes bookmarking to a whole new level. While I was using the bookmarking features integrated within the browser for my assignments at the MIE, Diigo offered advanced features such as highlighting, annotating and optimal indexing. Best of all, I could share my Diigo library, named Diigo Outliners, when collaborating on a group assignment for our SL1 project.
Benefits:
It has never been so easy to retrieve a bookmark via Diigo. It is organized in a hierarchical structure, making it so easy to access multiple pages within a single bookmarked website.
Challenges:
- Privacy concerns with shared bookmarks
- Learning curve for new users
- Dependency on internet access
Personal Reflection: Diigo in my opinion as a university student and a new researcher is the second best bookmarking tools. The best one in my humble opinion is Zotero, which is the perfect tools for referencing.
